We are Artists A+B (Amy and Beth Dowell), identical twin sisters and visual artists working collaboratively under the moniker ArtistsAPLUSB

Our practice explores the multifaceted dimensions of twin identity through art, design, and poetry.

Working across disciplines and between analog and digital media, we move fluidly from pixel to paper—integrating process and research at every stage. Through collage, drawing, painting, surface pattern, and typographic exploration, we develop a shared visual lexicon of symbols, text, color, and pattern that reflects the inseparable and interconnected nature of the twin experience.

The Reward is in the Process

For us, the real magic happens within the process itself. The work is not just about the finished object, but about the journey we take together—moving back and forth between hand-made and computer-aided methods. From early research and brainstorming to experimentation with materials and techniques, each step becomes a site of discovery. This shared commitment to process fuels our collaboration and allows our distinctive, twin-made language to emerge.

BIO:

Artists A+B are American twin artists whose shared identity has shaped their creative partnership for over two decades. Working collaboratively, they reimagine what it means to be twins, exploring themes of interconnectedness, simultaneity, and intersectionality through their work.

They describe their creative process as a “back-and-forth dialogue,” mirroring the playful reciprocity of twinship. This exchange is made visible through the twinning of colors, shapes, and patterns—visual strategies that echo their relational way of working and thinking.

By challenging stereotypes surrounding twin identity, Artists A+B celebrate its generative, empowering, and transformative potential. Their work functions as both resistance and reconnection: artifacts that document resilience, shared authorship, and lived interdependence. Through this practice, they explore twinness as a living, evolving phenomenon—a poetic and visual language of connection, intimacy, and possibility.

Artists A+B were among the first wave of artists invited to participate in Facebook’s Artist in Residence Program in Menlo Park, California. Their work is held in numerous private and public collections. Both artists hold BFAs in Studio Arts from Washburn University and MFAs from Purdue University.
